The new year always excites me! It’s one of my favorite holidays because it breathes new life into mundane, every day routines. You have a reason (and a push) for new goals, new dreams, new opportunities! And I don’t care how cliché it gets to say “new year, new me,” if it motivates you to start something you always wanted to, then heck, say it and live it!
But before I can jump head first into 2016, I have to give praise where praise is do to the top products of 2015. These goodies (both in beauty and skincare) have really become lifelong favorites for me. They’ve made my every day routine a lot easier and helped me look polished (even when I didn’t feel so put together). Last year I started this tradition (You can find my faves from 2014 HERE) so of course I had to keep it going this year.
I hope 2016 is off to a great start for you and after reading this post you find some new favorites and lifelong loves. Grab a snack, because this one’s a long one!!
EVERYONE needs to try these glycolic peel pads! Whether you’re suffering from large pores, dark spots, age spots, fine lines and wrinkles, blemishes or textured skin, you will benefit by adding these into your skincare routine. I love how gentle and easy they are to massage onto the skin. I will say my skin went through an initial purging phase but that came and went after about three days. After that the few breakouts I got healed and my skin has been getting better and better. I use them nightly and even in the harsh, cold weather I haven’t experience any peeling or extra dryness.. something I can’t say about other peel pads I’ve tried. They claim to be fine for even sensitive skin but I would do a three day patch test before fully committing.
Basically I have no excuse for waiting so long to try these fab brushes! I tried their M439 foundation brush about four months ago and it really changed my foundation application. The bristles are synthetic and very dense so it’s going to buff your foundation flawlessly. The way I use my M439 brush is by gently buffing my foundation in then going over it in almost a stippling motion. I also own a few of their eyeshadow brushes and they absolutely live up to all the hype. I think what makes these brushes so special and why every beauty blogger raves about them is their price point. In a world where brushes can climb into the hundreds, Morphe gives us quality at an affordable price point. I sense a review of these brushes very soon!
If you’re an avid beauty blog reader I can almost guarantee you’ve read about Sunday Riley. This skincare brand burst onto the scene this year and quickly gained a cult following with their mix of innovative technology and 99% pure ingredients. Although I do love their fan-favorite Luna Night Oil, my must-have is Good Genes. This is going to be your all-in-one radiance-boosting, brightening lactic acid treatment serum. Don’t let its main ingredient scare you though! I love that all of Sunday Riley’s prdoducts balance their powerful ingredients with calming ones so your skin doesn’t react. For me, it’s really helped with my hyperpigmentation and instantly gives me a healthy glow. I will never go without this product!
If you know me you know I’m a lover of neutrals. I love grays, baby pinks, peach shades, browns.. basically anything soft and in my opinion, pretty. And I’m also not a big nail girl. I like getting them done but I don’t have a huge collection like I see other girls have. But in 2015 I wanted to find my perfect shade. The one that if I threw on I knew would go with everything. So whenever I saw someone wearing a nail color I loved I made myself ask them what shade it was and guess what? I kept getting ‘Incognito’ by Dior! No joke it must have happened to me five times last year so of course I had to get it and I have no regrets! It’s my perfect shade! It wears beautifully and just makes my hands look so dainty. It’s pricey but beautiful.
Thanks to #KingKylie MAC lip liners made a comeback in 2015. Everyone wanted to rock that mauve, brownish-hue and when she mentioned she overlined her lips with MAC lip liners we ran to our nearest MAC store and stocked up. No shame, I did it too! And they became my go-to liners. I use them as guidelines when applying liquid lipsticks, alone with a bit of gloss or to transform lipstick shades I already own. They’re all fab but my favorite is Soar for that perfect pinky-mauve shade and Stripdown works beautifully to naturally overline your lips (no one will ever know)!
Something I am 100% on board with is purchasing mascara at the drugstore. They’re super inexpensive and work just as good as the one’s you find at the department stores BUT if you are on the market for a luxury mascara that does everything you want a mascara to do then this is the perfect one. I fell in love the first time I tried it and its never fails me! It lengthens my lashes like no other, gives me va-va-volume and stays put all day long. But the make-it-or-break-it factor for me when it comes to mascaras is whether or not it keeps my lashes curled all day and this one does it! It’s simply a must-have!!
Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz (Soft Brown)
I tried and tried, then tried some more to not give into the brow wiz hype because I’ve been super faithful to my Maybelline Define-A-Brow in Medium Brown (I talk about it HERE) for years and I’ve been so happy with it (still am) but I had 30% off and I thought what the heck! It really is a beautiful brow pencil because it looks so natural and even the biggest brow novice can use it. One of the things my Maybelline brow pencil doesn’t have that the brow wiz does is the spoolie on the opposite end; It makes all the difference when you accidentally create any harsh lines. I love that it also wears all day!
This full coverage foundation puts all other full coverage foundations to shame! I have never had a foundation cover so flawlessly in my entire beauty-loving life! You seriously need, at most, three drops to cover your entire face. I use my Morphe M439 brush to buff and stipple this foundation but the beauty blender works really well too. The best part is that it doesn’t feel heavy on the skin and lasts as long as a regular work day. If you have lots of imperfections you wish to hide and love a full coverage, matte finish, you need to try this foundation! (Full review HERE!)
If you crave a (buildable) full coverage foundation but don’t want to drop the $55 for the Marc Jacob’s foundation then opt for this one! This foundation has great coverage (not nearly as full as Marc Jacob’s though) and works beautifully on oily/combination skin. The consistency is a tad thicker than Re(Marc)able and it does set fairly quickly (so you gotta blend fast) but if you do so with a beauty blender it will blend smoothly. Because of it’s plastic, tube container, it’s also very travel friendly and find it’s easy to dispense just the right amount every time.
This is another product that had me at hello! Although I was using some great concealers (favorites HERE) I felt like I was getting kinda bored and needed something new for my under-eye area. I randomly decided to pick up a sample of this concealer (in shade 7) at Sephora and holy cow I had to buy the full size right away! You only need a tiny bit and it doesn’t settle into fine lines. It dries fairly quick so work fast but the coverage is undeniable. I top it off with my HG Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer and I’m good to go! (Can’t wait to try their new HD concealer though! I’ve heard great things!)
This spray has been a favorite of mine for years now (I talked about it in my MARCH favorites post) but this year it really took center stage in my makeup and skincare routines. During the summer months it was a quick refresher and in the winter it helped get rid of crazy flakey skin around my mouth area. I used this every day underneath my moisturizer (and sometimes again afterwards) to prep my skin with extra nourishment. My favorite part? If you love rose-scented anything you’ll find this heavenly PLUS if you spray this on your brush before picking up your shadow, it’ll intensify the shade and work as a primer (alá Mac Fix+)!
I haven’t heard anyone talk about these lipsticks and I have no idea why! They’re some of the most comfortable lipsticks I’ve ever tried and the colors are gorgeous. The packaging is black, sleek and the cap is magnetic (think Audacious lipsticks) and highly pigmented. They come in satin and matte finishes and just feel so smooth and super lightweight! You’ve gotta try the shades Sinful Cinnamon, Sultry Mauve, Rebel Rose and Voodoo Spice.
This is another product I mentioned in a previous post about skincare you need to try ASAP and for good reason! This lightweight cream has been around for some time now and has a big fan following for it’s gentle, but effective formula. I discovered it back in June and figured it was worth a shot not for diminishing fine lines and wrinkles but for my acne problems. Did my acne go away? No. But it has definitely helped with my texture and I highly recommend it as one of the best preventative creams for anyone in their 20s-mid 30s.
No matter what age you are, no matter what skin type you have, you should have this setting powder in your makeup collection. I’m not the first and definitely won’t be the last to mention this powder as a favorite. I mean, just watch any YouTube video or read any beauty blog to quickly find someone speaking its praises. That’s because it’s so finely milled that it gives the best shear coverage when lightly dusted all over the face. But the biggest reason this became a favorite of 2015 was for it’s baking ability. No not in the kitchen, on your face! Whether you use a beauty sponge or a brush, if you tap a larger amount of the product and let it sit over the areas you wish to set then remove after several minutes, you get a beautiful smooth surface where makeup won’t crease. I loved it for setting my undereye area, but it also works great to define/clean up your contour or minimize deep laugh lines and forehead wrinkles.
You’re eyes are not deceiving you; That is what remains of my lovely Kat Von D Shade + Light palette! The two top highlighting shades are completely gone because they were everything to me! I heard a rumor she’s coming out with individual pans to refill so if this is true I will be one happy lady.. and I’ll buy like three of each! The reason these shades worked so well for me was not only because the formula was so buttery and perfect for setting my undereye concealer, it was because the color was ideal for making my dark circles disappear. I loved the shade ‘Lucid’ (the salmon/peachy color) for correcting, then I would go in with ‘Lyric’ (the best banana color of life!) for brightening and the two worked like a dream! No setting powders I’ve tried have ever done the job quite like these two; HG status for sure! The contour shades are great too, I just go back and forth between other bronzers.
Well there you have it! If you made it to the end you deserve a prize! Because that was crazy long! But I hope it was worth it and you found some new products to try and hopefully they become your favorites too!
