When my husband and I stepped foot off our long flight abroad, we both glanced at each other with huge grins. The excitement definitely took over the exhaustion we felt and we were so happy to be experiencing Europe together for the next 10 days – something we both dreamed of for a very long time. I’ll be honest and say I was most excited to check Paris off my bucket list. I mean, come on!? How do you not wanderlust over the beauty and history of this city? And when I saw the Eiffel Tower for the first time? Well that was the perfect Paris moment!
It’s official, the hubs and I are headed to Paris! This weekend we finalized our travel plans for the rest of the year (I hinted about it on Instagram) and booked our flights to Europe and Spain. After all, Paris is always a good idea right? I think so too 😉 We’ll be celebrating our 5-year wedding anniversary and counting it as the honeymoon we really never had so this trip has been a long time coming! I’ve already gone Pinterest-crazy, reading every travel guide I come across and pinning restaurant lists and travel tips. Not to mention my favorite bloggers have been spamming my Insta feed with gorgeous Paris photos for #PFW (Paris Fashion Week) so the wanderlust is in full effect.
Hi beauty! I'm Ilse (ill-say)! Welcome to LiveLearnLuxeIt! A place where I share a medley of my loves - from fashion and beauty to lifestyle topics like marriage and #girlpower! My passion is to cultivate honest conversations between the women who are the doers and shakers of the world (or aspire to be!), and provide a source of inspiration for the modern woman.
I currently live in Connecticut with my husband of five years but have a special place in my heart for Arizona (my home state), where I graduated from ASU with a degree in Journalism.
Thanks for stopping by! I hope you decide to stay awhile!
When it comes to foundations, Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk is pretty up there in the favorites of favorites of the beauty world. It’s amassed a huge cult following, making it seem like it’s everyones HG foundation. So when I heard Armani was coming out with a new, fuller coverage foundation, aka Power Fabric Longwear High Cover, I was instantly intrigued.
The two foundations are very different. Power Fabric is full-coverage, with a matte-velvet finish and SPF 25. Luminous Silk is sheer to light medium coverage, with a dewy finish and no SPF. Both are $64 (eek!) and beautiful foundations in their own right but serve completely different purposes.
They say “comparison is the thief of joy” and what better time to dive a little further into this saying than while we’re all still recovering from a Valentine’s Day hangover.
I would be lying if I said I never felt the pang of comparison and its little sibling jealousy. I’m a perfectionist, through and through, and I’m particularly hard on myself when I feel I’m not meeting my own expectations. In general, we can all get wrapped up in what others have – feeling either content or disappointed on how we fair. Days like Valentine’s Day don’t help much – everyone’s posting about their happy relationships and extravagant gifts. It’s very easy to feel sad and lose sight of all the good we do have. So what can we do to channel our innate nature and turn it into a positive?
Highlighters are one of my favorite makeup products. They have the ability to brighten your complexion in an instant and help dull skin appear healthy (if only for the day).
Even if you have oily skin (like me), you can mattify your skin with a matte foundation then add the glow where you want it with a highlighter.
A while back I did a guide on choosing the perfect highlighter for your skin tone (available HERE), so today I thought I’d chat about my current collection and which highlighters I reach for depending on how strong I want my glow and the occasion.
Times are a-changing in the drugstore makeup world. I’ve always loved that I could find beautifully formulated lipsticks, clump-free mascaras, even blendable foundations at the drugstore but rarely pigmented and smooth eyeshadows.
So naturally my expectations weren’t high for the new L’oreal La Palette Nude 1; I purchased it purely for research purposes (promise!) but came out of it pleasantly surprised.
If you’re traveling to London for the first time, I’m so jealous! It’s a beautiful city and you’re about to have the time of your life! But before you can hop on a plane and start your overseas adventure (assuming you’re traveling from the U.S), there are a few things you’ve gotta do to prepare properly.
My husband and I just traveled abroad together for the first time. We started in London, then Paris, Barcelona and ended in Madrid (I’ll be doing a travel guide for each city so stay tuned!). I definitely did my fair share of stalking the internet for all the travel tips I could find. I researched hotels, neighborhoods, top tourist attractions and even made a list of the most raved about restaurants. Some of our days I planned out to the last minute, others I gave ourselves wiggle room to explore and be a little spontaneous.
Bonjour mis amores! Have you missed me? ‘Cuz I’ve sure missed you! I took a little break to settle into our new apartment and prepare for our Europe trip (which has been a blast so far!). Today was our last day in Paris and I swear I almost cried leaving our hotel. I really didn’t want to leave. If you’ve been following me long on Instagram then you know we started our vacation in London, then Paris and now we’re heading to Spain! While I’m sad to leave this beautiful city I’m excited to see what Barcelona and Madrid have to offer.
Greetings from Montréal! Or should I say bonjour? The hubs and I arrived on Thursday and we’re here because he’s playing in a hockey tournament. This is my second year coming with him and I always have such a great time. I gotta say so far Old Montréal is my favorite area because 1. the Notre Dame Basilica is just stunning and 2. the cobblestone roads are so cool and they’re getting me excited for Paris!
It’s funny I’m sharing this beautiful coral lace skirt today because I actually got it during last year’s Montréal visit. It’s from Zara but I found an almost identical one from White House Black Market (and it’s currently 30% off!). I’m completely embracing lace for spring right now. It’s no secret I’m obsessed with lace anything but there’s just something about the classic, romantic feeling lace gives to any piece of clothing that makes it the perfect date night outfit! Normally you’d find me in white lace but vibrant colors, like this coral pencil skirt, help bring a little spring and summer to any transitioning wardrobe.
Ah Monday, we meet again and this time, I’m actually happy to see you. This week I’ve got something really fun I’ve been waiting, what seems like, forever to share with you all. Keep your eyes on my Insta because you’re gonna love it!
Another thing I know you’re going to love? Pairing distressed jeans with duster jackets for a casual spring weekend outfit. I’ve styled this olive duster so many times on the blog (find the looks here and here) and that’s because it’s one of my favorite ways to “chic-up” an outfit. I love throwing leggings and a sweatshirt on as much as the next girl but sometimes they can be too casual. This simple weekend outfit works because the boyfriend jeans are not restrictive and the duster jacket is a light, flowy fabric that moves with you and doesn’t fit too tight. Everything about this outfit says you’re in chill mode and ready to enjoy your weekend plans.
Trying to build something out of nothing is a very daunting task. The will, the passion, the courage all have to be there, and they have to be greater than your desire to quit when times get tough. And times will get tough. More often than not you’ll hear “no” rather than “yes” and people will dismiss your work before praising it. Especially if you’re new and trying to prove your worth.
This past weekend I got the chance to attend a Power Brunch in NYC. The panelists included top entrepreneurs in the food, blogging, fitness, beauty even tea industry. They shared their journey, struggles and accomplishments and gave us tons of real-life advice on how they found success. There were so many good points made but a few kept coming up so I thought I’d share with you, what I’ve dawned, 5 keys to success from top entrepreneurs.
