Life has been like whoa lately! From BBQs to birthdays to work, weekend after weekend the hubs and I have been on a crazy Connecticut tour! Or so it seems from all the things we’ve got going on. It’s all fun stuff so I can’t complain! But it has left little time for us to plan our own activities!
So this weekend I made a list of all the things I want to do before summer is over. We’re fortunate we live in a really fun city where there’s not a shortage of events around us so I decided to choose my top, practical favorites (planning a mini road trip now is out of the question!).
As soon as I stepped out in this outfit my husband said, “I really like that.” I looked at him quizzically because if you really think about it, this look is nothing more than a white shirt and jeans – except it isn’t.
My top is the quintessential not-so basic white shirt and it takes the look to a whole ‘nother level! I’m talking chicy-deeky status and now you look like a bad ass fashionista who’s got it going on! Yes this shirt is powerful and you need it now 😉
Hi beauty! I'm Ilse (ill-say)! Welcome to LiveLearnLuxeIt! A place where I share a medley of my loves - from fashion and beauty to lifestyle topics like marriage and #girlpower! My passion is to cultivate honest conversations between the women who are the doers and shakers of the world (or aspire to be!), and provide a source of inspiration for the modern woman.
I currently live in Connecticut with my husband of five years but have a special place in my heart for Arizona (my home state), where I graduated from ASU with a degree in Journalism.
Thanks for stopping by! I hope you decide to stay awhile!
This past Sunday the hubs, our westie Scottie and I put on our chic Sunday best and headed to the Greenwich Polo Club. If you live in Connecticut it’s a must! It’s one of my favorite summer events and we make it a goal to at least go once during the season. (Though I’ll be honest and say I know very little about the sport.)
The atmosphere is lively and classy, and there’s never a shortage of glamour – especially in the fashion!
I like to err on the side of sophistication when deciding what to wear to a polo match and this year I had the pleasure of being dressed by Hobbs London.
Today I wanted to chat about something I struggle with so much. I’ve mentioned it before but if you’re new to these parts, hi I’m Ilse, and I tend to overanalyze and create perfect scenarios in my head. If the moment doesn’t go as planned, I get pretty upset. Not visibly but internally. And it doesn’t have to necessarily be directed at a person, it can just be an overwhelming feeling I get. What I’ve done is given up my happiness over little things I can’t control.
Adios staring blankly at your closet. Hello jumpsuits!
Jumpsuits are the one-and-done solution to all my “I don’t know what to wear!” problems. Seriously. They’ve quickly become my favorite (an obsession really) and now it’s my go-to outfit for every summer event I’ve got planned.
Putting aside how, um, interesting? it gets when you have to go to the bathroom, jumpsuits are super cute and you can find casual and dressy options everywhere! But my true love for this
onesie one piece comes from its weather versatility.

Last week I invited some of my best girlfriends over to see our new place and have ourselves a little summer soirée! (Can we all agree adding “soirée” to anything makes it sound super fancy?) Our guest of honor was Notable Wines because when my friends and I get together it’s all about good conversation and even better wine!
Oh happy day! It’s Friday and I’m chatting Morphe and Jaclyn Hill! aka The Jaclyn Hill Eyeshadow Palette! With a ton of buzz and hype around this palette I thought hey, my lady (and guy) friends need to know if this palette is all that and a bag of Takis. So here I am giving you all the goods!
Over two years ago I did a first impressions on the original Jaclyn Hill Favorites palette. I loved that palette and it really solidified that good, quality makeup doesn’t always have to cost a ton of money. I’m going to go ahead and follow the outline of that post again today because if it ain’t broke don’t fix it! (Guys, can you sense I’m in a spunky mood? I think it’s that Fri-yay feeling!)
Crop tops, gingham and culottes: They’re some of this summer’s biggest fashion trends. And somehow I managed to squeeze them all in one outfit! I know, rebel, but I think I pulled it off?
I’ve always believed that if a current trend doesn’t flatter your body type or style, there’s no harm in taking a pass. Just because it’s a trend doesn’t mean you have to wear it. And that’s probably the best advice I can give you. Make the trends work for you, not the other way around.
Dressing for an office setting while still showing off your personal style can be a little complicated at times. You want to be professional (I mean, it took long enough to land the job!) but you also don’t want to lose your fashion sense in what can sometimes be a stuffy corporate world.
If you work in fashion (or any creative) space you might have some wiggle room, but for the most part, adapting to the office dress code and adding your personal flair can be a tricky balancing act.
Add sticking to a budget and we’re in a whole ‘nother world of fun!
Hey hey it’s Monday! And I’m back with a quick inspiration post! 4th of July is two weeks away (what?) and I’d be lying if I said 4th of July outfit ideas come easily to me. Depending on what your plans are, you either choose to go all out decked in red, white and blue or you pay homage in a more subtle way. If you’re celebrating with a significant other you might even choose to coordinate, with one wearing the blue and the other red. I’m a little of both. I like to wear the colors but not in a very in-your-face way.
If you’re traveling to London for the first time, I’m so jealous! It’s a beautiful city and you’re about to have the time of your life! But before you can hop on a plane and start your overseas adventure (assuming you’re traveling from the U.S), there are a few things you’ve gotta do to prepare properly.
My husband and I just traveled abroad together for the first time. We started in London, then Paris, Barcelona and ended in Madrid (I’ll be doing a travel guide for each city so stay tuned!). I definitely did my fair share of stalking the internet for all the travel tips I could find. I researched hotels, neighborhoods, top tourist attractions and even made a list of the most raved about restaurants. Some of our days I planned out to the last minute, others I gave ourselves wiggle room to explore and be a little spontaneous.
