I’ll be the first to admit that “The Notebook” is probably one of my all-time favorite movies. (Yes, I’m “basic” and I love it!) I remember seeing the trailer for the movie and instantly knowing it was going to become my standard for all cinematic love stories to come. Ten years later and “it’s still not over!” 😉
So needlessly to say I pretty much suggest it for every “Girl’s Night In” I host; I mean, just cut to the end scene of the movie and my friends and I are curled up on the couch with a glass of wine in one hand and tissues in the other… I call that success!
But even though movies like “The Notebook,” “Mean Girls,” and “Sex and the City” are classics, I also love switching it up with gems my friends often forget about.
I’m about to name the best (often overlooked) “Girl’s Night In” movies that will have you and your besties bonding, laughing, crying, basically vowing your love for one another and planning retirement together.
I’ve arranged my choices from G-rated to raunchy. So pick your poison ladies! And grab your best ladies for a Girl’s Night In!
This one is for all my teeny-boppers out there. My adolescence coincided with the explosion of pop music so this one really brings me back to the good ol’ days. It stars Justin Timberlake circa curly-hair and Maggie Lawson (now on the show Psych). A regular girl and a model discover they resemble one another and switch places to see how the other lives; I hate it when that happens to me! And just look at that tag line, “looks like love is out of sync”?? Sold!
Ah the old body-switcharoo; Two sisters wake up to discover they’ve switched bodies after one of them wishes for it one night. This Disney movie is so fun to watch; It makes me feel like a kid again. And it teaches a valuable lesson; never underestimate the power of wishing on anything, whether it be a star, coin or funny statue-thingy majigg.
THIS movie!! I love it; A story of best friends who drift apart but are brought back together when one of them is about to have a baby. Their reunion takes them down memory lane that opens old wounds and helps them rekindle their friendship. I adore this movie for so many reasons but mostly because it shows the beauty of true friendship.
What do we want? I don’t know. Chocolate. I want chocolate. And wine. Chocolate wine!
The movie makes NYC look like the ultimate city for lovers. I remember the first time I watched it and dreaming about visiting New York; It’s all about believing that if things are meant to be, they’ll happen; Destiny. Perfect for all my hopeless romantics.
You are winning at life if you have a friendship like Romy and Michele’s. They invented the “business woman’s special” and rocked heels on a treadmill! I mean you can’t ask for more. They also teach you no argument is great enough to separate true friendship because life’s better with your best friends around.
Think “Chicago” without all the amazing music and actors! Yes, I know, I just sold this movie to you. No joke this is one of my biggest guilty pleasures; Small town girl dreams of becoming a big star and Cher is kinda-of like her “fairy dance-mother?” I can’t take it. It’s perfect.
This is like the anti-chick flick. It’s raunchy in all the right places and it shows that us girls can very well think and act just like men. We’re so awesome 😉 This one’s pretty great for a group of girlfriends who always have each other’s back, no matter how crazy their ideas may be.
Did I miss any good ones? Let me know!
(*Here’s a list of classic “Girl’s Night In” movies I adore: The Holiday, How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, 10 Things I Hate About You, Bridesmaids, and The Princess Bride)
