I used to pretend I was older. I’d walk around the mall with my friends (that was the cool thing to do) and try on bedazzled prom dresses because that’s what we were shopping for. Or at least that’s what we told the sales girl. We were 13.
I think back on those times and smile because we seriously had the best times goofing around, taking so many pictures of ourselves in gowns way too big for us. Did you know we invented the selfie? 😉
Now I wonder why I was in such a rush to grow up?
Today I’m 30, and now that the “Crap, I’m old” feelings have subsided *cuz girl they happened lol* I’m left feeling pretty calm and excited for this new decade of life. I did everything I wanted to do in my 20’s. I truly did. I can’t think of one thing I didn’t cross off my bucket list and that makes me happy, and proud, of little ol’ me.

I have quite a few birthday wishes this year but I’m only going to share one with you all and that’s to never wish to be older or younger ever again. I wish to be happy in the now and take each year for what it is. I don’t want to rush through my weeks and feel weekends are the only days I live for and that mundane things don’t matter. Because I’ve found sometimes they matter the most!
One of the biggest shifts in turning 30 has been the way I value things and people. I still have my same passions and get giddy over frivolous things, but my heart is with the people that bring out the great in me. Time is precious and for the last couple of years, I’ve realized that I don’t need to put up with those who don’t have my best interest at heart.
I’m pretty blessed I lived my 20s to their fullest and in the process, I found the love of my life, a job I’m excited for every day, traveled to places I never thought I would, got reminded several times how hard knock this life can be, and incredible girlfriends who are now more like sisters.
There’s nothing more liberating than letting go of what you thought life should look like. This is 30. I’m happy I “can’t hang” anymore, am in bed by 9:30 p.m. and get excited about home decor shopping and splurging on the fancy cheese of the week my husband and I can’t wait to try.
Let me know about your milestone birthday, how you celebrated and how you felt!?
Lots of love my friends!!
