You know that feeling you get when you find a pair of jeans that hug your curves in all the right places? They slip right on, button without effort and slim and lift where needed? I promise you that feeling is not a myth because I get that feeling these jeans! They’re the best white jeans and guess what? You don’t have to worry about wardrobe malfunctions because they are not see through! Not to mention they’re super flattering and smoothing where needed.
The thing about white jeans is that they’re an essential in every wardrobe, especially for spring and summer. They can be scary and maybe a little intimidating but they can work in your favor. A good pair of white jeans can break your blue denim rut and add some sophistication to your lunch and dinner dates. Depending on how you style them they can be casual or office-friendly and when you pair them with nude heels or wedges, they can really elongate your legs which is a plus for shorties like me.
TGIF! We made it! This week was a blur filled with exciting news (did you catch my new partnership on Insta?) and work, work, work! I also had a couple of meetings where I wanted to look chic-y deeky and I couldn’t help but gravitate toward wide leg pants – gosh I love this trend! You’d think because I’m short this trend wouldn’t be flattering but I actually think it helps me look taller – or is that just wishful thinking? #shortgirlproblems. Regardless, it’s definitely a must-have if you want to take your work wear to the next level.
Ah Monday, we meet again and this time, I’m actually happy to see you. This week I’ve got something really fun I’ve been waiting, what seems like, forever to share with you all. Keep your eyes on my Insta because you’re gonna love it!
Another thing I know you’re going to love? Pairing distressed jeans with duster jackets for a casual spring weekend outfit. I’ve styled this olive duster so many times on the blog (find the looks here and here) and that’s because it’s one of my favorite ways to “chic-up” an outfit. I love throwing leggings and a sweatshirt on as much as the next girl but sometimes they can be too casual. This simple weekend outfit works because the boyfriend jeans are not restrictive and the duster jacket is a light, flowy fabric that moves with you and doesn’t fit too tight. Everything about this outfit says you’re in chill mode and ready to enjoy your weekend plans.
My family has a tradition of heading to the park for Easter Sunday after mass. We make ceviche (raw shrimp marinated in lime juice and served on a tostada – so yummy!) and hide Easter eggs for the kiddos around the park. It’s one of my favorite traditions, and I looked forward to it every year when I lived in Arizona. I would always be so extra and dress up in my best Easter Sunday outfit – even if it was just to lounge on a lawn chair in the sun.
This dress screamed Easter to me, and I had to snag it when I saw it at Forever 21. The blush color is calming and the fit and fabric lend itself for the unpredictable April weather. I can even see this being a great dress to wear over a bathing suit as a coverup since it simply unties around the waist.
Trying to build something out of nothing is a very daunting task. The will, the passion, the courage all have to be there, and they have to be greater than your desire to quit when times get tough. And times will get tough. More often than not you’ll hear “no” rather than “yes” and people will dismiss your work before praising it. Especially if you’re new and trying to prove your worth.
This past weekend I got the chance to attend a Power Brunch in NYC. The panelists included top entrepreneurs in the food, blogging, fitness, beauty even tea industry. They shared their journey, struggles and accomplishments and gave us tons of real-life advice on how they found success. There were so many good points made but a few kept coming up so I thought I’d share with you, what I’ve dawned, 5 keys to success from top entrepreneurs.
Sometimes all you need is a pop of color to brighten your day! Lately I’ve been trying to step outside my comfort zone when it comes to my style. I’ve had the urge (several times) to just purge my closet and start fresh because most of it doesn’t reflect my style anymore. I have a few pieces I wear and re-wear because I feel comfortable in them but for the most part I stare at my closet and see Ilse circa 2014. Has that ever happened to you?
In a lot of ways it’s synonymous with what’s happening in my life right now. Slowly who I am and what’s important to me has been shifting, and I’m growing to be more accepting, loving and comfortable in my skin. I focus less on what people think because life is short, and living a happy life that is true to you is what’s really important. Kinda like a pop of color! You guys know by now I’m a neutral girl but when there are a lot of moving pieces in life, a pop of color in your wardrobe is the easiest way to brighten your day.
Happy Friday and last day of March loves! Yesterday I actually put pen to paper and started jotting down all my plans, appointments and special dates for April and let’s just say it’s panning out to be a super busy month! I’m not complaining though. There are so many fun things finally happening that I can’t wait to share. We’ve also been actively searching for a new place either in Connecticut or New York. The search is both exciting and nerve-racking because the market out here moves fast. I fall in love with a place, set a day to visit and next thing I know it’s already rented. I can’t catch a break. I just remind myself how long it took us to find our current place and how much we love it so all will end up how it’s supposed to.
A year ago you wouldn’t have caught me dead in shoes with a heel less than four inches. Seriously! As crazy as that sounds I literally wore wedges or heels everywhere I went. That’s because I’m pretty short. I’m 5’1″ (on a good day) and clothes just don’t look as good with flats on.. or so I thought. But last year I found these sneakers and they changed my life! Dramatic, I know, but so true!
These slide-ons are the most comfortable sneakers I’ve ever owned. The fabric is so soft and the design is simple but they still have an edgy vibe. I wear them pretty much every day because they’re the easiest sneakers to slip on and head out the door without thinking twice. Not to mention I get compliments every time I wear them. I love them so much that I just bought the taupe pair for spring (for reference I’m a size 6 and normally wear a size 6.5 so they run a bit big). The best part is you can dress them up (like I did here) or down, which is my fave way to wear them. They’re my go-to for travel (so easy to slip off for security checkpoints) and work so well with leggings!

It’s always so exciting preparing for a summer vacation. Work days go a little smoother and planning cute outfits becomes the real mission. Be honest you know it’s true!.. Well at least for me 😉 I try to make a list of the activities we’ll be doing then plan outfits accordingly. Not only is it super practical to write out your plans, it also helps with overpacking and saves time each morning because you won’t have to spend time putting together vacation outfit ideas.
We’re smack dab in the middle of transitional weather and dressing for spring when it’s still cold outside is seriously one of the hardest things to do. It’s warm. It’s cold. You never really know what you’re going to get so today I thought I’d help you narrow down your clothing options without forgoing spring-vibes.
There’s no question heels elevate any look – pun intended. They transform what could be considered a relaxed, casual outfit into a polished, ready-for-a-night-out ensemble. I’ve always found the best way to wear heels casually is by finding that right pair of pumps you can walk in as if you had sneakers on. Tough I know, but nothing’s worse than seeing a girl struggle in heels – it takes the “casual” right out of the equation if you ask me.
Once you’ve mastered the walk, there’s definitely some tips you can keep in mind when trying to achieve that effortless feel. Keep reading for my three tips on how to wear heels casually.
