As you can tell I’m a bit of a minimalist when it comes to fashion; Too much jewelry or lots of competing pieces can overwhelm my 5’1 frame. That’s why my favorite thing to do when putting together an outfit is letting one piece be the main focus, in this case over-the-knee boots!
It took me a long time to find the perfect pair and while I do love the sweetness behind little white dresses for date nights, it’s also nice to rev it up a bit, especially with Valentine’s Day this weekend. Because it’s been freezing these last couple of days (I def jinxed it in my previous post) I thought I’d share with you my favorite way to add a bit of sexiness to an otherwise simple outfit.
Happy February loves! 2016 is officially underway and for the first time (in a long time) I feel like time is actually going the right speed.. not too fast, not too slow. Just right. I feel ready for Valentine’s Day.
Here in Connecticut it’s been surprisingly warm (Did I just jinx it? Hope not). The weather has been so pleasing to my little Arizonan heart that I was able to comfortably wear this little white dress out for date night with my hubby this past weekend.
Hola mis señoritas! Aren’t you so happy it’s FRIDAY! I am. Partly because it’s my day off and also because it’s date night (d’awww). Yes, my man is taking me out on the town and I cannot wait!
Speaking of my man, today’s post was completely inspired by him. Not because he has everything (well, maybe since he did marry me 😉 I kid), but because he is very particular in what he likes. The man has taste.. good taste, so it can get pretty tricky when shopping for him. And with Valentine’s Day right around the corner I’ve been digging deep for some reeeally good ideas. Like I want to blow-his-socks-off good. Plus the man truly deserves it. He’s hardworking, dedicated and to top it off he entertained the idea of posing for this post (if you knew him you’d know that was no easy feat).
Isn’t it funny we always start thinking about the beginning when we’ve come to the end? It’s inevitable for us to reflect. We do it at the end of relationships, on our final day of vacation, even when our favorite show ends. It’s human nature to want to relive our favorite moments or dissect what we should have done differently in a situation we didn’t like the outcome of.
Today is the last day of 2015 and true to form I’m looking back on the year. Yes it’s predictable and cheesy but what the heck, I’m a cheese ball! To start, I’m letting go of all the “resolutions” I made last New Year’s Eve. In order to move forward I can’t dwell on my shortcomings. I have new goals and new expectations for myself that I really want to focus on and holding on to the past won’t get me anywhere. Many are personal, professional, spiritual and a lot are for this blog. Below are some things I’m going to focus on in order to reach my goals and bring you better content in 2016.
If time allows it, I can spend a good hour or two on my makeup (I don’t know whether to feel ashamed or proud I just confessed that.. Proud, I choose proud). So when it comes to other aspects of putting myself together in the morning, I tend to gravitate toward simplicity and ready-to-wear. And if it’s picked out for me, even better!
There’s not many events I like to get ready for more than date night. Busy schedules often leave my hubby and I opting for re-runs of Breaking Bad and indulging in take-out pizza (which let’s be honest we love doing) but when we get a chance to actually head out it’s such a treat. Even if you’re not married and it might be the first date or you’ve been dating several months, there’s always a bit of excitement in the air, and after primping for hours you want to feel like Rachael Leigh Cook in She’s All That when she slo-mo’s down the stairs to “Kiss Me” with Freddie Prinze Jr. anxiously waiting for her reveal.
Some of my most cherished treasures in life are the friendships I have with my best friends. I’ve been blessed to meet some beautiful, strong, intelligent women throughout my life and our bonds have become unbreakable; They’ve truly become like my sisters.
That’s why I couldn’t let Valentine’s Day go by without giving them cyber hugs, kisses and gratitude for all their support!
And also, some serious Valentine’s Day swag suggestions! It’s only right that on the most popular day to show your love, you show your besties (you know, the ladies that have been your shoulder to cry on and your biggest cheerleaders in times of doubt) how much they mean to you.
I can get in a lot of trouble for divulging this top secret information but here it goes.. Men are simple creatures. Feed them, love them, take them out for occasional walks and they’re happy as can be. Wait, was I talking about dogs or men? I kid, I kid 😉
I do stand by my original statement though: Men are simple creatures. If deciding on a Valentine’s day gift for that special man in your life has been driving you crazy, all you have to do is look back at the past two weeks and recall the things he gets excited talking about and what he spends most of his time doing.
I’ll be the first to admit that “The Notebook” is probably one of my all-time favorite movies. (Yes, I’m “basic” and I love it!) I remember seeing the trailer for the movie and instantly knowing it was going to become my standard for all cinematic love stories to come. Ten years later and “it’s still not over!” 😉
So needlessly to say I pretty much suggest it for every “Girl’s Night In” I host; I mean, just cut to the end scene of the movie and my friends and I are curled up on the couch with a glass of wine in one hand and tissues in the other… I call that success!
Today I thought I’d share something a little different; One of my favorite things in life is indulging in a good book. I can spend hours reading if I’m captivated by the words jumping at me from each page, and having just finished Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn I’m
disturbed eager to begin my next adventure in literature.
For me there’s no particular genre or writing style I like to stick with. As you will see from my current list, I like beauty books, inspirational books, thrillers, comedies, and everything in between. I believe if it’s truly a good book no matter your background or interests, it will attract and enthrall you.
