Having It All

If you caught a brief makeup-less rant on my Instastories the other day you probably heard me talking about my birthday this weekend. I’m turning 30! and the idea of it was daunting for a minute. I mean 30 is old right? 😉 I certainly thought that when I was 15. You’re definitely an “adult” and adults are known for having it all together.

Ha!

I chuckle because what does it mean to have it all? It’s perspective really. And if I’m being honest my perspective on life continues to evolve as I’m blessed with more and more days on this Earth.

If anything it’s refreshing to have a hold on what “having it all” means to me. So often we’re told what that should look like, and are even made to feel ashamed or wrong because we’re not adhering to this universal idea.

Thriving career. Marriage. Kids. Only eats quinoa.

Sorry but the limit for reaching these “expectations” does not exist. We get there when we want and if we want to.

Sometimes marriages don’t work out, couples who want a baby can’t have one and lay-offs happen. But the good news is – and this is so cliché but I believe it – what doesn’t kill us makes us stronger and life ALWAYS finds a way to surprise us.

Having it all means I’m embracing and loving all the little things I once looked in the mirror and wanted to change.

Having it all means I wake up every day and feel loved by those who truly care, respect and adore me.

Having it all means I do everything with passion and even more importantly, compassion.

Having it all means I have it all because I say so not because someone else tells me what that should look like.

If you’re new to these parts, don’t worry not all my posts are this “deep.” I talk about coffee, cute shirts, and wine so we have a good time around here. Today this topic just felt right. After all, I started this blog to cultivate honest conversations between women who love to share and enjoy the lighthearted things in life (just peep my first blog post back in 2014)!

I’d love to hear what “having it all” means to you and something you’re truly proud of that you’ve accomplished?! I’m eager to get to know the ladies that read this blog a lot more!

Happy Wednesday my loves!

Happy almost birthday! You are killing it in this dress 🙂 I definitely agree that sometimes what we consider as “having it all” is so different than how it really will be or should be!

Your blog post is absolutely fabulous!! I’ll be sharing it on my Facebook page tomorrow. I love your view on having it all and knowing what is important. Plus you are looking fabulous in that skirt! xo Jen – http://livelearnluxeit.com/having-it-all/

    • OMG this means the world to me! Thank you!

  • I personally love deep posts like this on blogs! I totally feel you, I remember thinking 30 was OLD AF… and now that I’m here, I def don’t feel old. It’s funny that you mention those meeting the limit with those expectations, because this may be controversial, but I find those expectations limiting… especially quinoa only 😉 YOU do YOU on your terms & you will have it all! By trying to live on someone else’s terms & expectations, it makes that hard! Great post, Ilse! xx Shannon || http://www.champagneatshannons.com

    • Yes girl!!! It is all about “you doing you”! You say what works for you and what doesn’t! Thanks love! I appreciate you stopping by!

  • LOL! Can’t blame you! I am over 30 and I certainly don’t have it all together! I just wing it as I go! Happy Birthday babe!
