What a perfect day to chat about one of the coziest coats you could wear: the teddy coat. It’s currently under 10 degrees in Connecticut and I have zero plans to venture out into the miserable cold. But if I was, you bet my outerwear preference would consist of the closest thing resembling my favorite blanket to keep me warm, which you guessed it, would be a teddy coat.
Teddy (bear) coats are casual by nature and resemble a snuggly teddy bear – so their name is 100% appropriate. They’re plush, extra-warm, and in my opinion, much more flattering than puffy jackets. They’re going to keep you cozy but still be super on-trend and they come in literally any color imaginable.
I first started seeing them everywhere last year and their Pinterest-worthy appeal is anything but dead. I think they lend themselves for every day wear very well so today I wanted to shake things up and share how to dress up a teddy coat instead. I find that once it starts to get very cold, being “fashionable” and warm almost become oxymorons but an oversized teddy coat will pretty much always do the trick.

how to dress up a teddy coat
Skip the jeans
If you’re going for the casual look then, by all means, wear your favorite jeans with your teddy coat. But if you’re trying to elevate your style then a sleek midi skirt will be the ticket. If it’s seriously cold out pair with opaque leggings underneath and heel booties but if not, let some skin show since your top half will be completely covered up.
Pair with a bold lip
A striking lip will always do wonders – especially when trying to dress up an ordinary outfit. You don’t have to go the red route, in fact, I encourage a deep mauve or maybe a cool-toned pink. Whatever you decide, wear it with confidence and the entire feel of the look will instantly change.
Pull your hair back
I admit I rarely wear my hair up but when I do, my outfit feels a little more polished and sophisticated. Try it with your teddy coat and see how quickly your casual coat becomes a chic staple.
more teddy coats to covet
Tell me, are teddy coats a staple in your wardrobe? I was a little intimidated by them at first but now, I can’t see myself surviving winter without them!
Thanks for stopping by today and until my next one!
