The day is finally here! I get to share our happy news with you all! My husband and I are expecting our first baby and we couldn’t be more excited!! Trust me, this has been the hardest little secret to keep so I am very happy and relieved to finally be letting you in on our greatest adventure yet. I try to keep this space as real as possible so hiding my growing belly or not really sharing one of the biggest things going on in my life right now has been a struggle. I’m so happy the news is out and we can do this pregnancy thing together!
So, where should I start? I guess from the very beginning!
When did you find out?
Remember back in June when I mentioned I’d spent a weekend in Nashville? Well, the day I got back I found out I was pregnant! It wasn’t official official until a couple of weeks later when we went to the doctors to confirm.
Did you have any symptoms?
I went to Nashville for a mentorship program meant to help me grow this very blog. During the program, I was so emotional. I basically cried all weekend and I thought it was because we were diving into personal discussions. While I’m sure it was partly that, I’m also sure it had to do with my hormones being all over the place too. I’m emotional but not that emotional.
I also had to pee like every 30 minutes, was super exhausted, and my mouth was extremely dry. I remember I kept blaming it on flying but I was obviously way off.
What were your reactions?
Disbelief! Obviously, we were over-the-moon excited but really at first, I don’t think either one of us believed it was true – and we really wanted it to be true! I think my husband and I asked each other, “Can you believe it?” for a week straight after confirming. Every day it sinks in a little more that we’re going to be parents and our world is forever changed.
How far along are you?
As of Saturday, I am 18 weeks so about four and a half months. Baby is due March 2019. I know we waited a little longer than usual to announce but I sort of let my feelings guide me to tell me when it felt right to share the news. Our families and close friends have obviously known for a while but for the most part, it’s been nice keeping such a personal journey to ourselves for as long as we could.
Funny story time..
While we waited for confirmation, we had a BBQ at my sister-in-law’s for the 4th of July. Obviously, no one knew at the time and my husband and I wanted to keep it a secret until we were 100% sure. My hubs and I knew it would be a pretty telling sign if I didn’t have a drink so we had to come up with a plan. Nobody really likes rosé in the fam so we bought non-alcoholic red and white wine and mixed them to look like rosé. Clever right? We poured it into an empty bottle of real rosé and we took it with us.
Well, a guest at the party decided to pour himself some rosé and instantly said how disgusting it was. He had served himself a pretty large glass and after hating it, poured it all down the drain. We thought that would raise eyebrows but nobody caught on. Close call though!
When did you start showing?
I definitely feel like as soon as I hit week 17 there was no hiding the bump anymore! In all actuality, I was patiently waiting to show because that made it more real for me. I will say it’s been a journey adjusting and embracing all the body changes.
How are you feeling?
In short, I’m feeling good. Every day is different but overall now that I’m in my second trimester I’m back to my regular routine and sometimes have to remind myself to take it easy. I plan to write a post on each trimester (first, second, and third) so I’ll go more in-depth about my symptoms but currently, I have lower back pain, headaches, and what I call “pings” in my belly which are basically round ligament pains so lots of fun stuff!
How is dad feeling? (a little note from my husband, Gerald)
I’m so excited to be a father! I can’t wait to raise this beautiful little person together with my wife. Of course, I’m a little nervous because I want to be everything our baby needs and give them the world. I understand there will be ups and downs but having such a strong partner beside me on this journey makes everything better.
What do you miss the most?
The obvious answer would be wine and that would be correct 😉 Haha, no in all seriousness I do miss my vino but what I miss most is not being able to use all my skincare. Isn’t that funny? When you find out you’re pregnant you’re given a list of do’s and don’ts and one of them is what ingredients you can no longer use, like retinol. I didn’t know how much I enjoyed that “me” time and I miss it. Also, eggs benedict! This brunch-loving girl misses them soo much! I seriously didn’t know how much I ate them and how much I loved them.
What are you most excited about?
Of course, I can’t wait to meet our little nugget and see what they look like but I’m also very excited to see my husband as a dad. I feel so confident in this journey because I get to have him by my side. He’s going to be an incredible dad and he literally wants the baby to be here now. The other day he said he was getting impatient and just wanted the baby to already be here. I, on the other hand, can wait.
Every day this baby is healthy and growing is a blessing. My husband and I don’t take this journey for granted and we feel incredibly blessed this baby chose us to be his/her parents. I’m so excited to share this season of life with you all and the rollercoaster of a journey that is pregnancy.
Until my next post! If you have any questions about pregnancy so far, leave them in a comment below.
