If you don’t own a midi dress – or 10 – girl, you gotta get yourself one! A midi dress (or skirt) is anything that hits mid-calf. In my opinion, it’s one of the chicest options for all women of any age. It’s a piece that should take permanent residence in your wardrobe because it’s versatile, appropriate for work and play, and really adds a level of sophistication that not many other articles of clothing can.
Styling a midi dress for fall is simple because it naturally lends itself to cooler weather. Fall, while beautiful, is notorious for erratic weather. With a midi dress, you can feel good knowing you can start and end your day in an outfit that’ll feel comfortable in the chilly mornings and as it starts getting warmer throughout the day.
When shopping for a midi dress, look for fabric, sleeve length and color to decide whether it’ll work for your lifestyle. My dress, in particular, has all the components for a perfect casual fall dress. The fabric is not heavy but rather feels lightweight yet cozy on the skin. It also works wonderfully as a layering piece if you want to add a light jacket or heavy coat.
I also love that this midi dress has long sleeves. If I don’t want to wear a jacket or care to lug it around once it gets warmer, I like that the dress alone can keep me warm. Plus, adding a seasonal scarf is a great way to get in the festive mood and can later be taken off and placed in your purse if you no longer want to wear it.
When it comes to color, I’m a huge fan of mustard. I actually did a round-up of great mustard color pieces last year and the love affair is far from over. I believe good wardrobes – especially seasonal wardrobes – are rooted in pieces that can be worn season after season. While every year we hear about trending colors, you’ll always see yellows, reds, browns, and oranges come fall.
Investing in classic pieces and colors is a great way to feel good about your purchases because you can rest assured you’ll continue to wear them and they’ll never go out of style. A midi dress is the perfect example of a piece that will help you transition into fall and works as a great layering piece to style throughout the changes in weather.
