I can get in a lot of trouble for divulging this top secret information but here it goes.. Men are simple creatures. Feed them, love them, take them out for occasional walks and they’re happy as can be. Wait, was I talking about dogs or men? I kid, I kid 😉
I do stand by my original statement though: Men are simple creatures. If deciding on a Valentine’s day gift for that special man in your life has been driving you crazy, all you have to do is look back at the past two weeks and recall the things he gets excited talking about and what he spends most of his time doing.
For example, my husband. His ears perk and his eyes light up at the mention of hockey; loves it, can’t get enough. He’s a big sports guy in general so I can categorize him as “The Ultimate Sports Fan” guy. From there I can start brainstorming ideas and eventually land on the perfect gift!
That’s what I’ll be doing for you today. I’m going to focus on seven types of guys and guide you in the right gift-choosing direction. If your man belongs to more than one “type” then lucky you; you’ll have a lot more gift options to choose from!
The “Techie” Guy
If your man needs the latest gadget and is already planning his day around the next iPhone release then you’re in trouble.. because he’s probably all caught up on the latest techie toys. BUT there’s hope! These days having a phone charger in your car is essential, so why not geek it out? An R2D2 charger is perfect because I’m betting if he’s into tech stuff, he also has a soft spot for Star Wars. Not a Star Wars fan? Then this Belkin Conserve Valet charges up to four toys at the same time, reducing wire clutter and saving energy.
The “Ultimate Sports Fan” Guy
Jerseys; They rule the “Ultimate Sports Fan’s” world. My hubby has a closet full of them! If you’re married you can purchase a matching set from his favorite team, personalize it with your last name and wedding date on the back. Just dating? The man deserves chocolate on Valentine’s Day too! Treat him to some chocolate covered strawberries.. but not just any strawberries, football-decorated strawberries! Win-win for the both of you.
The “Fashion Forward” Guy
Shopping for this man can be tough since his tastes are probably very particular. That’s why I think Trunk Club is a pretty cool idea; basically it’s an online shopping service for men where after taking a style survey they’re sent (free of charge) handpicked items based on their style profile. They have 10 days to try everything on and if they like something they have the option to buy it, or they can send everything back, again free of charge. Pretty cool right? Another great site to visit is The Tie Bar. They have what they call “style boxes” where they pair ties, socks, pocket squares, lapels and a tie bar all for a great price.
The “Health Nut/Outdoorsy” Guy
Healthy food is expensive; I’m guessing that health nut man of yours would love a basket filled with his favorite snacks, drinks, and protein powders, maybe even those cool new sneakers he’s been eyeing or new work out clothes in general. You can even go the kitchen appliance route; if he’s really into watching what he eats he might love a new EatSmart Precision Scale or any other kitchen appliance that will make cooking a little faster and easier.
When it comes to your outdoorsy guy, it doesn’t matter if he likes hunting, fishing, camping or hiking, I’m betting comfortability is top priority for them. Duluth Trading has flame resistant t-shirts, quick dry pants, and they also have a line called the “No B.S. Business Wear” that will keep him looking sharp without losing the practical features needed for a guy that’s ready to get dirty at any minute. You can give him these gifts during an impromptu camping trip you planned for just the two of you.
The “Car Aficionado” Guy
I’m sure your gearhead would greatly appreciate new tools this Valentine’s Day but aside from that what about trying to incorporate his love for cars into a stylish accessory? These gear shifter cufflinks are perfect for date nights and special occasions. Another great option is buying him a new car.. well, kind of. I’m sure he has a “dream car” so why not find it in a model car kit? He can build it and always think of you when he looks at it.
The “Movie Buff/T.V. lover” Guy
Is he obsessed with The Dark Knight? BAM! Or is he simply a walking encyclopedia of all movies ever created? A collection of the best pictures would be perfect for him. What about shows like The Walking Dead, Game of Thrones, or Breaking Bad? I’m guessing he loves them too. Memorabilia from his favorite movies or shows is the best route to go and fortunately websites like Etsy make it so simple to find creative and affordable gifts you can’t find anywhere else.
The “Artsie” Guy
A man who loves art can mean many things; he can love music, drawing, painting, dancing.. anything that is a creative expression of yourself is what I consider art. So is there a favorite song he loves? Why not track down the record version of it for him or look up when his favorite artist will be in town and buy tickets? If he has a favorite painting maybe try recreating it; you’ll be combining two of his loves. If he’s a breakdancer, why don’t you find out where the next big competition is going to be and make a day out of it? Focus on his artistic passion and his favorite way of indulging in it and include yourself in the activity. He’ll love whatever you come up with.
Did any of these suggestions spark Valentine’s Day gift ideas? Rest assured no matter what gift you decide to go he’ll love it, but not as much as he loves you.
Happy Hunting babes,
