Well hello there friends! I’m back today with a post all about wearing makeup to the gym. Recently I started making time for the gym again (I keep hearing summer bodies are made in the fall and winter) and it made me think of a few things.. like the stigma behind wearing makeup just to get your sweat on.
I know some of you must have read the title and thought, “Really? How vain could you be?” I hear ya. Trust me, I really do. But honestly you might have clicked on the wrong post because clearly this one’s not for you.
My goal with today’s post is to help you feel empowered about your choice to wear makeup to the gym. And if your choice is not to wear makeup to the gym, well, you should feel empowered too! The judgement that is passed between women about this topic really baffles my mind. What’s it to you if a little concealer makes someone feel ready to tackle those lunges? It doesn’t make her less devoted to her workout, and it certainly doesn’t warrant snarky, under-the-breath remarks. Though I wouldn’t advise going completely glam (don’t need clogged pores thank you very much!) sometimes you just need a little cover up to get you through the day.
So if you’re like me and prefer a little makeup over going bare face sometimes, keep reading for my quick tips on minimal makeup at the gym.
Stick to BB or CC creams (maybe even just spot conceal)
The goal with coverup at the gym is for it to look like you’re not wearing any at all. My favorite products to use are lightweight, and if possible have a little skincare in them. I’ve been using this tinted moisturizer and its been doing a great job at giving me sheer coverage with sunblock protection. If you only have a few blemishes or slight discoloration you want to cover then use a bit of concealer instead of a full base. A great concealer to use is THIS one because it’s waterproof and hypoallergenic.
Long-wear is your best friend
I have dark circles and discoloration on my eye lids so for me it’s essential to use something to neutralize those areas. A quick product I love using for both is Benefit’s Air Patrol. It’s meant to be used as an eyeshadow primer but it’s unique in that it’s lightweight and has a bit of a tint to it. What I normally do is dab a bit on my lids then bring the excess to my under-eyes. It’s not much coverage but it does just enough to help me look awake. I also adore using Becca’s Beach Tint in THIS SHADE for long-lasting cheek and lip color. The scent is ah-mazing and it gives my cheeks a healthy flush and my lips look like they’ve been stained by a cherry lollipop.
I also love recommending Benefit’s Ka-Brow for brows; It makes it super easy to create natural looking eyebrows that won’t budge. I normally don’t use anything on mine but I know what it’s like to have sparse brows (I’ll tell the story of a waxing experience gone horribly wrong another time).
Keep eye makeup minimal, if any at all
I don’t use any eye makeup when I head to the gym but if you must try a flesh color shade. Dust that over your lid so the area is neutralized and you appear more awake. I also don’t wear mascara but it goes without say that waterproof is the way to go if you have to use it; I really like THIS ONE. Though curling my lashes before heading out the door is a must; I find it really opens my eyes and helps me feel refreshed.
What products do you think work best at the gym? And how do you feel about the stigma with wearing makeup when working out?
