This past Sunday the hubs, our westie Scottie and I put on our chic Sunday best and headed to the Greenwich Polo Club. If you live in Connecticut it’s a must! It’s one of my favorite summer events and we make it a goal to at least go once during the season. (Though I’ll be honest and say I know very little about the sport.)
The atmosphere is lively and classy, and there’s never a shortage of glamour – especially in the fashion!
I like to err on the side of sophistication when deciding what to wear to a polo match and this year I had the pleasure of being dressed by Hobbs London.
From the cherry blossom print to the pleated deep-v neckline detail, my maxi was the perfect choice so I thought I’d share my tips when deciding what to wear to a polo match and how Hobbs helped me channel in my inner Kate Middleton – if only for a day.
If you’re new to Hobbs, it’s a British womenswear line originating in London. I first fell in love with the brand when I was in London in May and little did I know their US flagship stored, which opened in March, was located on Greenwich Ave. – close to where I live! The first stand alone store opened in the Westchester Mall in 2016 and if you’re along the east coast you can find Hobbs in all Bloomingdales.
They have the best outfits for every occasion – work, weekend, wedding, you name it, you’ll find something fit for a princess.
So how did I decide on my gorge maxi? I like to follow these 4 tips when choosing what to wear to a polo match:
Dress In Your Best Garden Party Chic
There’s no right or wrong silhouette when going to a polo match but I like to keep it classic with the patterns and colors. Pastels are a summer fave and if I hadn’t fallen in love with the hand-painted print (yup, you read that right!) I would have considered this option.
Ditch The Heels
It’s a rookie move to wear heels to a polo match. They’ll sink right into the grass and it’ll actually ruin your shoes. Go for wedges, cute flats or a chunky platform for the occasion. You might also choose shoes that come off easily. Some people like taking them off and enjoying the coolness of the grass while they watch the match.
You Can Wear A Hat (Just Not The Derby Kind)
Stylish fedoras, fascinators or hats that block the sun can be super chic and on-trend with the polo match dress code – just don’t go too crazy with the style. Save the over-the-top look for the Derby and go for a more classic look for polo.
Think About Fabric
You’re going to be out in the sun for a long time so opt for light, movable fabric. My Charlotte dress felt like nothing on and moved so beautifully every time a breeze came by. It was definitely eye-catching and the soft pastel floral pattern gave off a delicate and feminine vibe.
I’d love to know what Hobbs dress you would choose for a polo match?! – or any occasion really! Let me know below your faves from their site!
Until next time friends!
Thanks to Hobbs London for collaborating on today’s post. All opinions are 100% my own.
