There are many things that scream holiday season and red lips are definitely one of them. Some people think they’re overplayed while others love a crimson smile. I personally don’t feel I’ve fully embraced the holidays until I’ve worn my favorite red lipstick.
That’s because when it comes to classic holiday makeup looks, red lips will always top the list. I still remember the first time I wore Mac’s “Ruby Woo.” It was a complete game-changer! If you’ve never fully gotten on board with rouge lipsticks there’s no better time than now. Keep reading for my top three reasons to love red lips this holiday season.
IT GIVES YOU CRAZY CONFIDENCE
Wearing a red lip is synonymous with confidence. I’m not sure why but I think it has something to do with it being bold, fearless and always demanding attention. I’m convinced red lipstick has special, magical powers.
In all seriousness red lipstick is probably one of the easiest ways to give yourself a quick pick-me-up. Having a bad day? Put on some red lipstick. Feel like your skin’s looking dull? Brighten it up with a quick swipe of your favorite red. Want to spend less than 10 minutes on your morning routine but still look put together? Red lipstick to the rescue.
It’s so easy and does so much for your overall attitude. Try it next time you’re having a blah day. You’ll notice the difference instantly!
I get asked all the time if there’s an age limit for red lips? (I get asked the same question about glitter or sparkle in eyeshadow but that’s another post.) The answer to both is “Nope!” Red lipstick is timeless and no matter your age it will always be appropriate.
THERE’S A SHADE FOR EVERYONE
Long are the days when you only had a few red lipsticks to choose from. Now there are countless and EVERYONE can find their perfect match. If you don’t know where to start you can use this guide (it’s for pink lipsticks but the same tips apply) or start by trying any of the lipsticks I’ve linked below. They work for everyone because they have blue undertones which are known for being the most complementary across the board, and they make your teeth look whiter.
I’d also recommend exfoliating or using a hydrating lip mask before applying red lipstick. It especially helps if you’ll be wearing a matte formula. This hydrating mask is wonderful and does a great job smoothing any texture on the lips.
What’s your favorite red lipstick to wear during the holidays? I’d say “Ruby Woo” will forever be my favorite.
Thanks so much for stopping by!
