This season of life has been without a doubt the most rewarding yet overwhelming time for me. Vivienne just turned 5 months (which is mind-boggling) and my husband and I just made a huge life change – more on that later! With so much going on every second of every day, I’ve found it difficult to recharge so I can tackle all the things I need – and want – to do. I’ve said it before that I’ve never been good with time management. Mix that with a little burnout and it’s a recipe for disaster.
Today I’m excited to share a few simple things to recharge you and help navigate life in a more calm and relaxed manner. There’s no secret key to balancing it all and come out feeling fresh as a daisy, but I’ve found that even doing one of these very simple things can make a big difference in day-to-day life.
what I’m wearing
Write down your tasks
My husband is the king of making “to-do” lists. He even makes the little boxes next to the task so he can check it off when he’s finished – why he doesn’t just get the pre-made ones is beyond me 😉 But I decided to finally follow his lead and write down the things I need to do. Not only does it declutter the mind but it helps me see what’s in store for the day; I can just glance at it and decide what takes precedence when Vivienne is napping. If I don’t write things down I tend to be scattered and without fail, forget to do something I need to get done. This simple act really has helped me feel less overwhelmed and a lot more prepared, especially when my days are unpredictable with a little one.
Take a workout class
If you follow me on Instagram, you know I’ve been enjoying taking barre classes. While it takes some schedule coordination with my husband so he can watch Vivienne and I can get out the door, the days we make it work are heaven to me. I’ve always been a regular runner but with a class, I’ve pushed myself more and made most of the days I do get to go. I’m also less distracted and focused more on my “me time.” It’s been such a rewarding experience and time I cherish with myself.
Ask and/or take the help
For the longest time I resisted getting help from anyone. I would always say “I got it” when really I didn’t or I’d figure it out but it would drain me. Since Vivienne was born I’ve slowly realized that I’m not super woman and I can’t do it all (hardest sentence to type right there). I was even finding it hard to ask my husband for help but now instead of letting it all build up inside, I’ve learned to know when enough is enough. Since letting go a bit I’ve felt happier and much more energized to be present in the moments that really matter.
Let joy in
When you’ve got goals, it’s hard to not always be on. You feel like you’ve got to be hustling all day every day. That’s fine and dandy but trust me there will come a day when you finally hit a wall and crash.
Recently I realized I wasn’t letting myself have fun anymore; I was all business all the time. Sad right? With so many things on my plate, I felt like even relaxing and watching a movie was a waste of valuable time. Something happened the other day where my husband and I couldn’t stop laughing and it hit me that it’d been a long time since I belly laughed. Quickly I vowed to change that and start enjoying life again. Goals and getting ish done are great but never at the cost of your sanity.
I would love to hear your thoughts on this subject and what simple things you do to feel recharged and ready for a fresh start? Drop them in the comments section below! I know for me incorporating these small changes has been a complete game-changer in the quality of life I lead.
Happy Friday and until my next one!
