Hey old sport. Ain’t life grand? 😉 Today I’m sharing some fun pictures, party-planning tips, and favorite 1920’s finds during the planning of my Great Gatsby party!
If you missed it, I turned 30 last month and for years I had the idea of throwing a “Kissing the Roaring 20’s Good-bye” themed birthday party for my 30th. As life would have it, my husband’s cousin’s wife, MacKenzie, also has the same birthday – down to the year. Crazy right? To top it off, she’d always wanted the same theme for her 30th so we decided to join forces and plan the party together.
MacKenzie is actually a party planner in Fairfield, Connecticut, which helped a ton! She knew great vendors and was on top of the little things I probably would have missed. (You can find her business here). If you can share a little of the responsibilities and idea-bouncing with someone else, I highly recommend this (you can count that as tip one!).
If you’re planning a Great Gatsby party, or any party really, here are a few simple tips I picked up during the party-planning process.
4 Tips to Organize your Own Great Gatsby Party
Set a budget
Self-explanatory. Set a budget so you can allocate your funds to the areas you most care about and perhaps skip or re-think the others you don’t.
Start a Pinterest Board (but don’t get hung up on it)
There are beautiful, extravagant pictures of Gatsby-themed parties on Pinterest and of course we did our fair share of pinning (here’s our board) but we didn’t let it limit us or discourage us when our creations didn’t turn out exactly like the pictures. For the most part, Pinterest was a great way to get our ideas in one spot and to make sure we were both on the same page in terms of decor and colors. Luckily we both wanted rose gold everything, a little sparkle (okay, a lot) with accents of white and black.
Invest on Amazon Prime
Every time I went over to MacKenzie’s house to work on my Great Gatsby party she’d have something new and say “Amazon Prime” lol. So if it’s party planner approved then I’ll take it as an essential for planning a party on your own. If your party asks for unique, theme decor then I definitely recommend investing on Amazon Prime. You’ll probably be placing a lot of online orders so it won’t go to waste.
Find shortcuts/Areas where you can save
Everyone invited to our Great Gatsby party were family and friends (duh!) and it was an adult birthday party so we decided to go with online invitations. Minted is currently offering free online invitations (not sponsored) so we decided to skip the hassle of actual invitations. We saved money (and time) on something that most people throw away anyway. We found a Gatsby-inspired design that was gorgeous! It worked extremely well and Minted actually sends updates/reminders for you so you don’t have to worry about tracking RSVPs down.
We also didn’t pay for a venue. We decided to have it at one of our homes and it worked out great.
As for the cake, we opted for cake pops and special cupcakes for MacKenzie and I. We knew our friends and fam would enjoy just a bite or two of something sweet and cake pops were perfect.
