The year is 2008. Gossip Girl is everywhere and nobody can stop talking about the gorgeous costumes worn by Blake Lively and Leighton Meester aka Serena and Blair. That was my first dose of fashion I wanted to emulate. Serena always looked so effortlessly chic; The ultimate ‘cool girl’ with perfect, undone hair and mismatch patterns that somehow worked. If she was a fashion piece she’d be the moto jacket!
Moto jackets are one of those wardrobe pieces that everyone should own. Whether you’re a man or woman, they work in such an easy way but make a big fashion statement. I like to think of them as timeless yet edgy, kinda like Serena.
Just because the weather’s getting colder doesn’t mean you have to say good-bye to your moto jacket-wearing cool girl vibes. There are three tips I have when wearing a moto jacket during winter months and they’re all super simple.
If it’s one thing I’ve learned from living on the east coast it’s how to layer! A casual hoodie or your favorite sweater would look amazing under your moto jacket. In fact go a step further and wear a thermal under that hoodie or sweater. You’ll be the chicest girl in school without having to compromise warmth!
2. LET IT TAKE CENTER STAGE
Moto jackets naturally stand out but when you pair them with monochromatic looks they really pop and demand attention. Black moto jackets are a staple, essentials even, but a cream-colored one, like mine, or their camel and blush options, add a special twist to your outfit.
3. DON’T LET THE JACKET WEAR YOU
You got yourself a moto jacket. Great! Now wear it like you mean it! It’s like putting on your favorite red lipstick or that curve-hugging LBD.. it’s going to make you feel some type of way! So be ready, and strut a little harder if you need to.
Are moto jackets a closet staple for you? How do you like to transition your jacket into winter? I’d love to know in the comments section below!
