Wearing black during summer months has almost become an unspoken no-no in the fashion world. Trend predictions always pop up come new seasons and wearing black during summer is rarely on the list! You’re almost left wondering if it’s okay to do so? The answer is yes!
Listen, if there’s one thing you should know about me is that I love to keep an eye on trends but I love doing my own thing more. Trends should serve as a guide, not a definitive answer so if you want to wear black in the summer then go for it! I personally think chic is always in and black is the ultimate color to achieve that.
With that said, there’s certainly a way to go about wearing black when it’s warmer out. It’s great that black hues absorb heat, but I always love to keep a few other things in mind when deciding how to wear black in the summer and stay cool.

Loose Clothing/Light, Breathable Fabric
Fabric is probably the most important thing to consider when choosing summer staples, and it’s especially important when wearing black. Fabrics like linen, cotton even chambray will work best when rockin’ the dark hue during warmer months. This jumper was extremely lightweight and the loose, ankle cut made it super breathable and comfortable in the heat.
Pop of Color
While a monochromatic look is always in, if you want to add a bit of summer to an all-black look there’s always a pop of color. I added mine with a raspberry-colored lipstick but you can also do this with accessories. My favorite way to add a hint of color is with bright or reflective sunnies! You don’t have to spend a lot of money and it adds just the right amount of summer feels to the look.
I went with my fave brown wedges for this look but any strappy, open-toe shoe will work. Even if you opt for a black shoe, the look will work just fine since the style will scream summer.
Incorporate A Seasonal Detail
Whether the print of your shirt has a fun summer vibe or your bag is shaped like a pineapple, let there me some sort of element to your look that hints at summer. The pom-poms on this jumpsuit keep it a little fun and also soften the look.
Let me know if you shift the colors of your wardrobe depending on the seasons or if you stick to what you love and know?
