Well loves, it’s that time again! It feels like I was just recapping my first trimester with you guys yet here I am chatting second trimester symptoms, or what many call the “honeymoon phase” of pregnancy.
The second trimester of pregnancy is from week 13 to week 28, or is it 14 to 27? Honestly, I’ve read so many different things I’m not quite sure but basically, it’s roughly months 4, 5, and 6.
From my experience, first and second trimester were night and day. I wouldn’t say second trimester was a complete honeymoon period but I was able to get back to a “normal” routine. I started not to feel nauseous 24/7 and I got my energy back, but I also had new challenges and physical changes to get used to. Pregnancy has a funny way of letting you get comfortable or think you’ve got things under control and figured out before it kicks you in the butt, letting you know you’re not in charge.

Second Trimester Highlights
Around week 12 (which was right before my second trimester began) I started feeling better and getting my energy back. You might remember this was around NYFW and I had yet to announce I was pregnant. Between trying to figure out clothes that fit, running around NYC from show to show, and figuring out what and when to eat, NYFW was definitely an experience. I had a great time and would do it all over again but it was trying, and super exhausting, to say the least.
Week 15-16 I was super emotional. It was like pregnancy hormones hit me smack dab in the face and everything made me tear up. I could be watching a sappy commercial or listening to an acceptance speech and start bawling my eyes out. Lucky for my husband this only lasted those two weeks and I was back to normal after that.
At almost 17 weeks I had my first vivid dream of baby girl. I dreamt I was holding her and that’s really all I can remember. Mostly I remember waking up and it feeling so real that I looked around to see if she was here lol. Obviously, she wasn’t but I did have to take a moment to come back to reality.
Around week 18 (October 13th to be exact) Gerald felt baby kick for the first time! We were sitting on the couch watching the Red Sox during the World Series. Gerald was so fired up about something and baby started going nuts! I grabbed his hand and put it over my belly. It was one of the best moments so far!
When I hit the halfway point, weeks 19-20, I started finding it harder to get comfortable even when I would lay down. Baby started being super active, especially at night, and nausea came back for a day or two during week 20. It reminded me how awful I felt some days during my first trimester and thanked my lucky stars I was out of that phase.
By week 25 I had definitely “popped” and there was no more hiding the belly. We took these pictures when I was 22 weeks so you can obviously see baby girl was in full display. By this time I had given up on jeans and started sizing up when purchasing new clothes.
Second Trimester Symptoms
Second trimester brought on some very strange symptoms. I don’t remember exactly when they started but I had (and still do) get:
Muffled hearing. I can be talking to someone and all of a sudden lose a bit of hearing from one of my ears. It happens more when I’ve been outside a lot (it’s winter right now) and will go away once I warm up. It’s very weird and I hate it.
Charley horse or muscle spasms. OMG I get these all the time now! Especially at night or early in the morning when I’m waking up. I’ve tried upping my water intake to help but still happens.
A tingly sensation on my upper left back. I don’t know what brings this on but it happens pretty frequently. I haven’t linked it to anything because it’s pretty random and happens no matter the time of day.
Products I Love
I am still using and loving all of the products I mentioned in my first-trimester recap, including my prenatals, belly oil, and belly lotion for stretch marks. My pregnancy pillow has been extremely necessary as my bump has gotten bigger – I use it every night! I also love this bra and purchased some basic long sleeves shirts and light sweater to get me through everyday dressing and errand running. I just sized up.
Second trimester was when I really started to feel pregnant and it started to sink in that I was going to be a mommy. With baby moving and I finally showing, everything became real very quickly and life started to become all about baby.
We also did a lot of traveling during this time because it’s when I felt my best. I highly recommend going away with your significant other during this time because it made it extra special and my husband and I had a great time on our trips. We went to Boston for my birthday, North Carolina for a wedding (where we took these pictures), Las Vegas, and visited my family in Arizona where my mom threw me a baby shower.
I hope you enjoyed this little second-trimester recap. I’m currently 32 weeks and feeling so anxious, nervous, but overall excited to be meeting our baby girl soon. The days have been long but the months have felt short (if that makes any sense).
If you’re a mom-to-be, I’d love to hear about your experience so far and the products that have helped you along your pregnancy journey? I always find it so helpful hearing from other moms and what products they loved.
Thanks for spending a little time with me today and until my next post!
