Thank you to Huggies and ShopRite for sponsoring this post. All opinions expressed herein are my own.
I am by no means a “pro” at this mom thing but I’d like to think I’m being the mama Vivienne needs. Our little lady just turned seven months and it’s been a whirlwind of emotions, trial-and-errors, and countless “a-ha” moments. You know, those “a-ha” parenting moments that change everything and help you feel like maybe, just maybe, you might have this whole thing figured out (oh, if only)! On the daily, I feel like I’m learning life with her and without fail, it seems she’s teaching and helping me grow more than I’m teaching and helping her.
Something tells me if you’re a parent – in all definitions of the word – you’ve experienced your fair share of them too. I had one of my biggest “a-has” the first week Vivienne was home with us and they’ve just kept coming ever since. I hope we can simply share our moments, almost like girlfriends at a coffee shop, and pick up a thing or two from our experiences.
Don’t take anything for granted in parenthood, not even the privilege of being able to buy diapers
This “a-ha” parenting moment came pretty early and it has stayed with me throughout my motherhood journey with Vivienne. When Vivi came into our lives, it was clear that loving, guiding, and providing for her were my husband and my’s top priorities. But some parents simply don’t have the means to purchase even the essentials. In fact, one-in-three families struggle to provide diapers for their baby.
Knowing this statistic moved me to make a difference and it became clear that partnering with Huggies was a great start.
As the founding sponsor of the National Diaper Bank Network, Huggies’ No Baby Unhugged program has donated more than 225 million diapers and baby wipes to families who struggle with diaper need.
When you buy Huggies Diapers at any ShopRite store or online at ShopRite.com from now until 9/28, Huggies and ShopRite will donate a day’s worth of diapers to National Diaper Bank Network partners in the New Jersey and Connecticut areas. I can’t stress enough that even if you don’t live near a ShopRite (like me since moving to Arizona) you can still go to ShopRite.com to shop Huggies diapers and help donate 500,000 diapers.
You don’t have to do it all yourself
I rejected help left and right at the beginning. I felt like I was taking the easy road if I said yes to anyone offering to help with Vivienne. My attitude on this drastically changed when my husband finally made me realize I was unnecessarily taking on too much.
In letting go a bit, I started prioritizing the things that I really cared to do and delegated the others that didn’t serve me any good or simply didn’t need to be done by me. The quote, “You can do anything, just not everything” truly fits this lightbulb moment and it’s something I wish more moms would realize sooner.
Trust your parenting instinct
Plain and simple, you know your baby best. I love getting advice and I always love hearing other parents’ experiences, but at the end of the day, I trust that my husband and I know Vivienne best and we know what works for her.
This parenting “a-ha” moment was one that clicked for me when our little ladybug was super fussy one day and everyone kept giving us suggestions on what to do. In the back of mind, I knew what she wanted but I kept listening to all the advice. Finally, I listened to my parenting instinct and Vivi calmed down as soon as I gave her what I deep down knew she needed. From that day on, it’s been mama’s instinct first.
No one baby is alike
Education is great when expecting a little one but I also think it’s smart to “go in” with an open mind. What works for one baby might not work for another, so it’s important to test the waters (and by that I mean products and methods) to see which one(s) your baby likes. I’ve recommended some favorite products in this post but always take things with a grain of salt and follow the lead of your baby – and your heart.
Now that I’ve shared my biggest “a-ha” parenting moments, I would love to hear yours!? Which one(s) changed everything for you? Leave me a comment below!
And remember to purchase your next Huggies diapers at your local ShopRite or ShopRite.com to prompt a donation to the National Diaper Bank Network!
