Real talk? I’ve been out of the makeup game for quite a bit. It really hit me when I walked into Sephora the other day and felt overwhelmed by the amount of new products. The funny thing is this blog actually started as a beauty blog but somewhere along the way it transformed into a lifestyle site and I started sharing tid bits of my everyday life, style and most recently, my life as a mom to an almost one-year-old.
Having Vivienne completely changed the amount of time I spend getting ready. Because I no longer have forever and a day to do my makeup every morning, I have a go-to 5-minute, 10-minute, and on the rare day, a 30-minute makeup routine with beauty products that never fail me so I can look put together fast. The time I spend on my make up varies, but the products rarely do because these are my tried-and-true. So if setting foot inside a Sephora tends to overwhelm you, save this post and use it as your guide to reliable beauty products worth the price tag.
Six Beauty Products That Never Fail Me
Hourglass Veil Translucent Setting Powder :: This powder is a dream for setting the undereye area but it also works wonders for setting the rest of the face. It’s finely milled so it’s less likely to cake throughout the day. I also get the least amount of settling into fine lines with this product.
I’ve been using it for over two years now and while I still love this cult classic, I tend to prefer my Hourglass Veil because it doesn’t accentuate dryness like I was starting to see with my old fave. On a day-to-day basis, I’ll pat and dust off with this brush (also works great for contouring) but when I know I have a long day ahead or I’m going to a special event, I’ll apply with this $8 sponge, let sit for a good 5-10 minutes, then dust off.
*HOT TIP: Setting your liquid foundation with a powder on top is key for longevity of makeup. It will also help with blending when you apply your powder bronzer and blush on top. You can also set the rest of your face (not the undereyes) with a powder foundation which will give you extra coverage. This powder will give an airbrush finish but will not add more coverage.
YSL Tatouage Couture Liquid Matte Lip Stain in “Nu Interdit” :: If you have very pigmented lips, this shade might not work for you but the formula is worth exploring. I rarely have to reapply when I put on this lip stain and on me, it’s the best for a “no makeup” look. The applicator gives you the ability to line the lips so no liner is necessary (although I still like to pair with this one) and the wear is extremely comfortable. This is THE stain for those looking for a longwear lip product that sits nicely on the lips.
Charlotte Tilbury Matte Revolution Lipstick in “Pillow Talk” :: This lipstick isn’t really “matte” like the name suggests but more of a comfortable finish. I pretty much wear this lipstick every day and it works with a full face of makeup or the bare minimum. I talked about it before in this post but truly, I think this lipstick should be owned by every woman, no matter the age or skin color. Pair it with the liner and you’ll never need another lip combo again.
Hourglass Ambient Lighting Bronzer (Luminous Bronze Light) :: Hourglass came out with their ambient lighting powders many years ago and they changed the game. The reason? The formula was luminous and lightweight and worked great for all skin types, especially mature or problem skin. They come in bronzer and “setting” finishes. This one is a bronzer and warms the skin with just a touch of radiance. It works whether I have a full face of makeup – or not – and rarely looks “muddy.” It also lasts a long time and doesn’t accentuate any pores.
Jouer Blush Bouquet Dual Blush Palette in “Adore” :: Extremely universally flattering and just the right amount of pigment. I love this blush duo (and often mix the two) for the most beautiful healthy glow. Plus the price is amazing for the quality and packaging.
Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush Flawless Finish Setting Powder :: I just repurchased this product for the second time and while it doesn’t seem like it’s doing much when you’re applying it, you’ll notice the difference when you stop using it (especially in photographs). Like the name suggests, this is a setting powder you can use under the eyes (works like magic!) and all over the face. I go back and forth between my Hourglass Veil and this one and can’t really tell you which one is my absolute favorite because they both leave the skin silky smooth. The biggest difference is this one is pressed so you can take it with you throughout the day for touch-ups.
