There’s a new season literally on the horizon and while it’s still hot in Arizona, we’ve been teased ever so slightly with cool temps here and there (mostly at night). If you live in say Connecticut (hey old friend!) you’ve probably already started seeing the early signs of autumn foliage and your fall radar is in full swing.
I think the bits of cool temps have finally made me excited for a new season. I know this fall will be very different from my previous ones but I’m going to try my hardest to do all the fall things, even if that means sweating while apple picking.
Since temps won’t be fully cooperating any time soon, I’ve been looking at the top summer trends to take into fall. Most of my fall favorites are still boxed up from our move so I’ve been working with what I’ve got to maximize my wardrobe and bring it into the new season. These are the summer trends that aren’t going anywhere and with a little re-styling will work just fine come fall.

I don’t subscribe to the “no white after Labor Day” rule and honestly, why is this even a thing? White denim can be such a beautiful contrast to the typical fall shades like deep greens and mustard-anything (see a fave piece here). White, and especially cream, denim can offer a simple alternative to basic jeans and freshen up a moody fall look.
The dress I’m wearing has slight puff sleeves but you can go as big as you dare! This trend isn’t going anywhere and I’m seeing so many long sleeve tops still incorporating this dramatic detail. I love it because it’s a statement in itself and one of the easiest ways to add a fun summer-to-fall trend to your wardrobe.
Ruching can add the most forgiving and beautiful detail to any top or dress. This summer it was everywhere and it’s still being featured, mostly in dresses. The gathering adds subtle texture and helps any article of clothing feel slightly elevated.
Long are the days when floral was strictly for summer. Today, floral prints are huge well into fall. Maybe you change up the tones, maybe you don’t. If it’s a top or bottom you loved all summer, bring it into fall by pairing it with a solid dark color. Or if it’s a dress, add a denim jacket, blazer, or leather jacket – depending on your style.
If summer had an outfit it was the slip skirt, graphic tee and sneakers. Now that we’re transitioning into fall, the slip skirt is still going strong but chunky sweaters are replacing the tee. If you didn’t give this trend a try during the warmer months try it now for a soft, romantic look you can wear day or night.
Hallelujah for comfy footwear! Since I’m only 5’1 I was hesitant to let go of my heels but let me tell you, I did it and I haven’t looked back. For fall, pair your favorite sneakers with straight-legged trousers, a slouchy sweater, and maybe even a long coat. This look is so sleek and chic and perfect for even casual Friday at work.
What trend did you love all summer long and are just not ready to say good-bye to? I would love to know below!
